Aims of the ANDESCROP project  

Development objective

The objective of this project is to contribute to improved livelihoods in Bolivia, nutritionally as well as economically, through increased use of Andean agrodiversity, and improved sustainability of the production systems.

 

Specific objectives

  • Enhance research capacity of Bolivian scientists through targeted BSc and MSc programmes in applied and basic sciences associated with conservation, adaptation, production and utilisation of selected Andean crops and wild relatives
  • Establishment of courses for established Bolivian scientists
  • Increase production and productivity of the selected crops through rescue of crop diversity, local knowledge and technological innovations
  • Encourage the development of new markets for the selected crops
  • Improve nutritional status of the rural and urban population through the stimulation for consumption of food products based on Andean crops
  • Increase political and public awareness on the value of Andean crops
